The Mobile Planetarium
The vision is to provide every child in Namibia with an unforgettable scientific experience at some point in their schooling career. To achieve this, a mobile planetarium with Namibian-fit software has been made available by the Radboud University (RU) to the University of Namibia (UNAM) for the use in Namibian education.
In the context of the Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT) program, the UNAM/AMT Mobile Planetarium educational outreach project aims to inspire and enthuse the curiosity of learners for the hard sciences such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The project is jointly coordinated by the Radboud University (RU) and the University of Namibia. Technical support and expertise is provided by the Netherlands School of Astronomy Research (NOVA), which has over 12 years of experience in running mobile planetaria in the Netherlands. Once fully developed, the planetarium will be coordinated by a AMT team project coordinator, and the shows will be done by a team of Namibian (astro)physics students.
