Our Mobile Planetarium

A mobile planetarium takes school learners on a fascinating journey through the universe, introducing them to incredible phenomena and challenging them to broaden their horizons. It is perfectly suited to enrich school environments, making learning more interesting, interactive and unforgettable.

A mobile planetarium is an inflatable dome. On the inside of the dome, interactive images of the night sky can be presented by experts (astronomers/astronomy students). One can, for example, look at the Earth, the Moon, the Sun, and planets, but also zoom out to see stars, galaxies, and other interesting phenomena such as black holes. There are no fixed scripts, which means that the program can easily be adapted to fit the age, knowledge, and interests of the audience. This makes it an ideal tool for schools. The dome is large enough to fit 30-35 children, has its own power supply and is suitable for in- and (shaded) outdoor locations.

With the backing of over 12 years of Planetarium experience and support from the team from the Netherlands, UNAM has the opportunity to provide an unforgettable, world class scientific experience to Namibian learners. A learner would generally need to travel thousands of kilometers if he or she would ever want to experience a planetarium. The UNAM/AMT Mobile Planetarium makes it possible to provide this opportunity to any school literally at its doorsteps (or rather in its school hall).
